CHILDHOOD LOST...
This post is for those of you old enough to remember a genuine American chilhood. You'll understand and recall it all, once you read on:
- Your parents kicked you out of the house to run around until dinner time -- instead of letting you laze around in front of a TV.
- You had to "make your own fun" -- instead of taking formal lessons for everything.
- It was a time when tag, touch football, stickball and other running games were played at school -- instead of being banned because of "potential lawsuits" or "hurting someone's feelings." A time of skinned knees, bruises and learning from one's own mistakes -- as opposed to today's obsession with safety, supervision and self-esteem.
- It was a time when most kids were physically fit, dressed relatively modestly (although some Puerto Rican chicks tested limits on a regular basis) and had actual contact with flesh-and-blood friends -- as opposed to "cyber relationships" abetted by sleazy or self indulgent web blogs... like mine.
Kids today will never know what they missed -- and that's a real shame.
PS. I know I speak like I'm 55 years of age, but even when I was a child (back in the late 70's and early 80's) this was the norm. Go figure.
